FBG Racing's Carl Edwards and Reed Sorenson took the last few weeks to show the NASCAR world that being a rookie doesn't mean that you ride around, staying out of everyone's way and learning as much as possible. You also get to win when the chance presents itself. Carl Edwards swept the Atlanta race weekend by winning both the Aaron's 312 Busch race and the Golden Coral 500 Cup race, his first in both series. In similar fashion, FBG Captain Reed Sorenson Dominated the Pepse 300 in Nashville this past weekend, crossing the finish line 14.417 seconds ahead of the competition. FBG Racing CEO Frank Gordon insists this is "just the beginning." Posted by Hello

A Statistician No More

During the inaugural G2 Auto Racing Season, FBG Racing CEO Frank Gordon could be found “cooking the books” every day between a race and the following week's qualifying, analyzing every number he could find in order to get the edge for that weekend. He looked at how each driver competed at that particular race, at that track, even at tracks of that size. Now that he's expanded his company's scope to include the Busch Series, Gordon finds that analyzing statistics really does him no good.
“My team in the Busch Series this year is almost completely green”, stated Gordon yesterday. “I have a solid Buschwacker in my active pool, but only one driver who isn't considered a rookie.” Gordon is referring to Shane Hmiel, whose 10 starts in the 2004 Busch season has primed him for a solid run in the No. 32 Trimspa/Winfuel Chevrolet. Many were concerned with Gordon's choice of rookie Reed Sorenson for his team captain. With only five starts in the 2004 season, most would have assumed he would have picked someone with more races under their belt. “I'm not the least bit concerned,” says Gordon flatly. “He had great stats for those five starts, and he's already putting up impressive numbers so far this year. He's the right man for the job, no question about it.”
In addition to Hmiel and Sorenson, FBG Racing's Busch program boasts rookie Carl Edwards, who only made one Busch Series start last season, and Ryan Hemphill, who has had no prior NASCAR experience, having been pulled from the ARCA Series to start for FBG Racing.
So what method will Gordon use this year? “Well, the practice times and qualifying will tell me just about all I need to know. Usually, if the guys are fairly consistent during practice, they'll be consistent during the race, no matter where they qualified. I'll just pick the guys who look good that day.”

Sending Busch Teams South Of The Boarder...Is It Worth The Risk?

Not for FBG Racing CEO Frank Gordon, it isn't. "I understand that NASCAR is trying to get money from our neighbors to the North and South of the United States, but this schedule they have us running is hectic enough as it is without driving to Mexico", Gordon stated earlier today. "I mean, sure motor sports are big down there. They're big everywhere you find cars. But you don't see us flying to Germany or Australia, do you? Just because there is a way to get there by land doesn't make it any easier logistically."
Gordon also stated NASCAR is "asking for it" by sending high-profile athletes to a country where "crime, pollution and kidnapping are the norm". "I have instructed all of my teams that are going to Mexico to stay at the track near their haulers despite the Saturday evening off," says Gordon. "If they need something they can't get at the track, we'll try to get someone with security to get it for them, but no one's leaving the area to go any where or do any thing. We're here to race."
The G2 Auto Racing Teams will compete in the Telcel Motorola Mexico 200 on Sunday, March 6th at 3PM Eastern.
